In this gallery, we explore the magic of figure in the desert. I worked with Lisa Marie one spring
evening in the Valley of Fire, Nevada, one of the most popular locations for figure photography. And
Lisa is one of the most sporting models to work with. But for the first hour or so of the shoot, I was not inspired.
As we watched the harsh desert glare slowly melt away and the light soften, we could feel the change
in the desert air, the sand turning pleasantly cool underfoot and the distinct quickening in our pulses.
The most remarkable feature to me was the complete union of the delicate skin tones of the model with
the brilliant colors of the desert and the melding of their textures, calling out for an abstraction of
treatment. As the last light of day fled the scene, we ended the session with an almost ritualistic
salutation to the sun and a few moments of quiet introspection.
